Lithium-ion battery (LIB) technologies and applications are rapidly evolving, and their use by consumers is widening. Fires or explosions caused by these batteries are uncommon, but the consequences can be devastating. It is likely that the number of
incidents and injuries will continue to increase. When risks are exposed, standards and regulations follow. When incidents happen, court cases follow. Scientific findings pre- and post-investigations can help guide safety regulations and determine
cause. CET’s Inaugural Battery Safety Compliance symposium convenes forensic scientists, regulatory authorities, cell manufacturers, fire safety investigators, insurance companies, and lawyers to facilitate dynamic discussions on integrating
LIBs safely into our mobile society.
Coverage will include, but is not limited to:
- Manufacturing compliance & testing
- National & international organizations & standards
- Product safety test standards
- Regulations for safe transport
- Packaging
- Consumer education
- Normal use vs. abuse
- Forensic analysis
- Post-incident investigation
- Building codes
- Personnel training
- Re-use
Case studies involving incidents encompassing initial cause through investigation to court cases are sought.
